FREE ART and free stuff citywide DAY

    FREE ART !!!
    2nd Saturday, Feb. 13, 12 - 4 pm
Jimmy Descant, the Rocketman, will be giving away free art at cultureclash, F & 1st, Salida, CO.
In appreciation of a better future, a community that supports the arts, all the art buying public, and people who happen upon our small town full of creative people.
Though 2009 was the roughest year for this artist (and many others in all walks of life), I am continuing to be the Rocketman sculptor and look forward to a full and prosperous 2010, and on. Some people still cannot spend an extra dime on anything but the basic most necessary elements of life, so I came up with the idea of giving away art to create a better world and community. I will set up at the gallery from 12 - 4 and interact and ask people their stories and ideas. My intention is to use the word "FREE" in the pieces I give away, but I may also hand out some past unsold art.
I am also forwarding this to Caring and Sharing, the People's Clinic, FYI, the Grainery, Boys and Girls Club, etc. for the people they serve and help in the hopes of reaching those less fortunate that aren't always in the know about the arts.
There will be a tip jar out for donations split 50/50 between Chaffee People's Clinic and Doctors Without Borders for their efforts in Haiti. One local, one global. I received so much love and help after Katrina, I want to pass that on to helping Haiti, which has an unbreakable historical bond with New Orleans. Even being the poorest country in the western hemisphere, they sent $36,000 in aid to New Orleans after Katrina.
I will ask the recipients to pass this idea forward by giving the piece to someone else, or giving another piece of art from home, or creating the word FREE and putting it somewhere anonymously... If I get an article in the paper, I will also try to encourage the public to put free stuff out on the curb for that day. A city wide free day would be great!
Any participating artists, musicians, galleries, or retail shops should put a 'FREE ART TODAY' sign in their window for this the day before Valentine's. Or 'FREE COFFEE' or 'FREE STUFF' or ... etc. For a possible visit from a reporter for the Mountain Mail, please send your plan of action, or just inclusion, to reporter3@themountainmail.com, or Ann Marie Swan at the Citizen, and to me for further promotion, soul47@aol.com

    Thanks, from the Rocketman
